i know i haven't been posting a lot recently, but it's because i've been hard a work in the studio. since i got the pattern down for my "jimmy shirt" i've been banging them out.
i'd been wanting to dress a little nicer at work and this was a great opportunity to go for it. the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th shirts are all linen. i discovered a new fabric store (b&j fabrics), and they have really nice super lightweight linen (aka handkerchief linen). i also got some gauze cotton (the 2nd and 4th shirts) for those days when it's to humid to function. the 7th is one made out of the chambray i got for ethan, and the last one is a lightweight calvin klein cotton. i like to think of it as a collaboration with calvin klein. i got it down to only taking about 2.5 hours to make one shirt! now i have a shirt for everyday of the week and i basically haven't taken these off since i got them finished!
this is the final shirt after my tweaks. i made it an inch longer and made the yolk 4 inches tall instead of 3. it's a bit looser than a fitted shirt would be on me, but because of the henley design and it being a woven fabric i had to give it a little extra room so i could actually get into it. perfect.
i transfered the pattern to poster board and even made a fancy hook for it. it was inspired by my friend alex who made a "safety pin" out of a bike spoke (bottom left). i took that same idea and made a hook with a closure to hold my pattern.
