i know, i know, i know... after all the grief the last sweatshirt gave me, why the hell would i want to start another one right away, right? i'm a glutton for punishment. i've had this image on my computer for a while now. it's from balenciaga's spring 2012 line. not only is it super rad and looks like a star trek uniform, but it kind of reminded me of my flag! great sweatshirt candidate.
off to the drawing board! because the sweatshirt has an asymmetrical design i can't do the usual half pattern cut on folded fabric, so i've traced the full front and back patterns and drew on the stripe designs.
here's all four pieces of the patterns with the stripes drawn on.
i'm most skeptical about the left arm. i put on a dummy shirt of the same pattern and drew where the diagonal lines would fall on the sleeve. because the stripe on the front and back pieces meets the side seam just below the armhole i'm thinking that the stripe should line up, but that means that the stripe on the shoulder gets real wonky. i'm going to do a tester with scrap fabric on this arm to see if it works.
because i'm lazy and don't want to redraw the whole pattern again, i'm just adding a seam allowance to the cut out pieces as i'm cutting.
here's the rough draft of the weird striped sleeve.
and all the pieces cut out and ready to go!
