every once in a while i get "discovered" on the internet. i am always shocked and excited whenever this happens, and it seems to happen completely randomly and out of the blue. it's usually a big spike in the hits to my sites (etsy, jm.com, blog) and new people reaching out to me interested in the quilts. i've been fortunate enough to meet some pretty amazing people and have had some awesome opportunities come my way because of it. this past week boingboing.net did a post on my quilts which led to people taking notice and some reposting it on their own sites.
most of the time the reposts are exactly that--a word for word reposting with the same images that just gets linked around the internet, but every once in a while some one will go a little further and bring up other people that are doing similar things as well. i always like these posts the best because i get to find out cool stuff that other people are doing in the same vein that i haven't been able to find myself. satin moon's blog took the original boingboing post and ran with it--hitting it out of the park!
she not only included this image of an amazing quilt made in 1876 by ellen harding barker (which i had seen before)
but also posted this one: the herschel astronomy/solar system quilt that is super rad and i had never seen before. you gotta check out the link--there's little written descriptions on each of the heavenly bodies describing them!
she then goes on to include 13 different quilters doing space themed quilts! some i have actually heard of and communicated with (hi liz!) but it was really great to find even more people of like minds. judy ross even has her own apod (astronomy picture of the day), what??!! amazing.
as for me, now that v838 is finally done i have a few different projects lined up before i start the next quilt (which will be a mining operation in the rings of a planet). i have a pile of fabric that has been sitting in the corner of my studio waiting to be made into clothes for ethan and i, so that's got to get done. i also wanted to concentrate in ernest on working on some more embroidery projects. i've dabbled a little with it in the past, but i've got a lot of new ideas, so we'll see where that takes me. i also want to start including some embroidery/drawing stuff on the main site as well as including the costumes that i've made for my spaceman.
and i leave you with this amazing feet of cobbling (unintentional pun) ethan and i were out looking for new boots for him and i came across these nebula printed shoes. nebula printed shoes!!!! that is all.
